Mountant control on glass.

چکیده
Some microscope slide mountants exhibit a tendency to spread beyond the periphery of their cover slips, flowing over the edge and under the slide, fouling the stationary and moving components of the mechanical stage. In the authors' experience, mountants that are most commonly associated with this problem are alcohol, lactophenol, water and other water-soluble preparations of low viscosity. The p r o b l e m of mountant control is particularly bothersome in examination of water mounts using the compound microscope. After many years of living with the problem, a method has been found that will control droplet size and prevent mounting preparations from flattening and creeping in an uncontrolled manner across the length and width of a microscope slide. Glass slides are treated with Siliclad ®, a silicone preparation marketed by Clay Adams Co. The process is relatively simple and the coating is reasonably long.lasting. Glassware to be treated is washed, then rinsed in clear deionized water. It is then immersed for 5 sec in a solution of 1 part Siliclad to 100 parts water. The silicone-coated glass must undergo a curing period at 100 C for 10 rain, or at room temperature for 24 hr. At the time of this writing, treated slides which have been used repeatedly for temporary water mounts almost

Mountant-induced loss of Shorr-stained blue sperm tails.
It has been reported that Shorr staining provides additional morphological information on the motility of spermatozoa in semen, by distinguishing between red and blue flagella. With our routine methods (involving mounting slides) we were unable to confirm these observations. The presence of both red- and blue-coloured sperm tails in Shorr-stained semen smears was apparent, however, if slides we...
متن کاملEco-Friendly Hybrid Concrete using Pozzolanic Binder and Glass Fibers
Hybrid Concrete focused on the development of buildings, highways, and other structures of civil engineering. In the current study, various mix combinations have been prepared and tested with different percentages of super-plasticizer at different levels of water reduction for obtaining the optimum mix. Further, study on different properties of hybrid concrete and replacement of ordinary portla...

متن کاملDouble skin glass façade and its effect on saving energy
One of the most important methods of saving energy and providing indoor comfort conditions of buildings is the careful design of the façades. A “double skin glass façade” is optimally one of the best options that control the heat interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces. Two kinds of heating energy is usually transmitted through exterior envelope “conduction” and “radiation”. Double skin g...
متن کاملThe Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Solubility and Disintegration of Resin Modified Glass Ionomer Cement – An In Vitro Study
Introduction: Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a dental restorative material that is prone to solubility and degradation. GIC could degrade in presence of water and desiccation due to environmental factors during setting process and eventually might lead to the failure of the restoration. Cigarette smoking brings a complex chemical mixture to oral cavity that can inhibit polymeriz...
